Domestic Metals Corp. has launched a 9,000m diamond drill program at its Smart Creek Copper Porphyry Project in Montana, a joint venture with Rio Tinto, aiming to test high-grade porphyry copper and related mineralization identified in recent exploration. The program, fully funded from existing cash, targets the Smart Creek and Sunrise Mine areas using IP geophysics, historic drilling and 3D modeling, with initial assay results expected six to eight weeks after drilling commencement.
The campaign follows two years of systematic work that produced notable high-grade copper, gold and silver samples and defined large-scale geophysical chargeability anomalies at Smart Creek and Sunrise, now designated as Priority 1 drill targets. Successful results from the planned six to eight deep holes could materially advance Domestic Metals’ flagship project, strengthen its position in the North American copper exploration space, and potentially enhance the value of its partnership with Rio Tinto and returns for shareholders.
Phase 1 drilling at the Smart Creek target will test an expanded IP chargeability feature on the project’s eastern side with three 600m to 800m holes over roughly 45 days. Phase 2 at the Sunrise Mine area will probe northern and southern anomalies with four similarly deep holes over about 60 days, including zones prospective for copper porphyry and skarn mineralization, providing a sustained stream of technical updates as core observations and assays are reported.
Domestic Metals Corp. is a mineral exploration company focused on copper and precious metals, with key projects in the U.S. including the Smart Creek Copper Porphyry Project in Montana. The company operates Smart Creek as a joint venture with Rio Tinto, which holds 40% of the asset, targeting porphyry copper and copper-gold-silver enriched carbonate replacement deposits in a district historically known for large-scale copper production.
Smart Creek spans 8,000 hectares about 50km northwest of Montana’s Butte Mine Complex, a prolific historical copper district. The company has advanced the project through modern exploration methods including geological mapping, geophysical IP surveys, high-grade surface sampling and compilation of historical drilling, positioning Domestic Metals as an emerging player in North American copper exploration.
Domestic Metals’ work to date has highlighted two priority targets at Smart Creek: the Smart Creek target zone and the Sunrise Mine area, both characterized by significant geophysical chargeability anomalies and high-grade metal sampling. These features suggest potential for porphyry copper and associated gold-silver mineralization, underscoring the project’s strategic importance for the company’s growth pipeline.
